Emma Deegan transmutes industrial tools and canonically feminine products into abstract assemblages to interrogate the uncanniness of objectification and violence. Her practice observes orchestrations of control enforced collectively through bodily containment and the development of public space. Through (de)constructional acts of sewing, forging, and welding, her practice inverts assumed material qualities, like the softness of textile and rigidity of metal, to offer fluid forms that are structurally capable. Her material experiments become spatial interruptions that contaminate the staging of order. She received an MA in Sculpture from the Royal College of Art in 2026 and a BA in Sociocultural Anthropology from Boston University in 2022.
