Emma Deegan is a self-taught artist based in Brooklyn, NY. Through emphasis on intuitive processes rather than designed outcomes, her work is a meditation on art as a symbiotic ritual between herself and the materials. With materials positioned as agentive collaborators, her work questions common perceptions of ‘objects’ and what these ideas reveal about human violence. Through these questions, she explores art as a surrender of control and power– and as a way to decenter ourselves within the environment.
